Avoiding Career Meltdowns

Ask any person if they want to have a career meltdown and the definite answer you would get is a resounding “NO”. No one wants to get caught alive in a career meltdown but it does happen and they are not only embarrassing, they are often scary.

Watching someone go hysterical over a single event could make you think that it is not just worth it and they are often the people you would see doing everything that a project or an event will work as planned. Watching someone go on meltdown will also remind you that one day, if you are not cautious, this would happen to you.

The consequences of a meltdown are not a pretty sight either. Some would quit right there while others are just terminated because of their actions. If you even get to stay in the same company or industry, your reputation will be forever tarnished and your career is practically over.

You may not know it but you could be on the verge of a career meltdown. Today, everyone are always worked up and pushed to the limit that those who are not able to cope could easily brake down and just give up.

If you are pressured everyday, you will always be on the edge of your seat making sure things would work as planned. But if something goes awry or the expected result is not achieved, you might just snap without knowing it.

Preventing Meltdowns

Meltdowns can happen to anybody anytime but it does not mean that you just have to wait for meltdown day and work things from there. The pain caused by meltdowns is just too much that you will have to prevent them as much as possible.

You should remember that meltdowns can be prevented if you are just conscious of all your actions and feeling. If something is coming up, you should know how to react.

• Stop and Think

When you are assigned to do a task, always stop and plan it out. You do not just plan for the event but you also plan to combat the unexpected. Some would say that it is ridiculous to create a contingency plan for something that may not happen but you have seen persons give up because despite of their best efforts, an unexpected event happened which could jeopardize the task on hand.

If you are overwhelmed with the task and challenges ahead, always stop. That will make you place things in perspective.

• Ask Help

Never think twice even if you only have the slightest inkling that you cannot do a specific task. Asking help will never ruin your reputation and it will make sure that the assigned task will be expected with the right output in the expected time frame. An image that you are never perfect is better than an image that you are downright mean because of a career meltdown.

• Providing Help

Always observe your teammates or co-workers and help them if you think they are on a brink of a meltdown. This is your way of helping the company and your co-worker succeed. Sometimes a small help could mean a lot to your co-worker as it could ease the tension once and for all.
