Fresh Graduates Resume Highlights

A basic requirement to be hired by most companies is education. A degree related to the industry is usually required by companies to their employees. By hiring those that have relative education, the company is confident that the employee at least has a simple idea what the industry is all about. All they need to do now is to provide additional training to fully customize the skills of their employees for the advantage of the company.

But oftentimes, this fact has been missed out by fresh graduates. The common perception is that their education is simply a platform of other things – experience, additional training and even the network of people. A college education is simply one of the simple facts they would like to add in their resume.

You should emphasize your college education more than anything else. As a fresh graduate, this is the only thing that you could use to get hired in any industry is your education.

Reviewing the Past

Your college education is not a four year course – you should treat it as a collection of experiences that you could use to be hired.

Your college degree will never be possible without doing well in any of the courses. Count on some of those courses to prove that you have the right skills to be part of the company. This might require you to dig deeper into your college records but during these times wherein everyone has to prove themselves to be better than most, you need to have those records. Carefully outline the courses that you have excelled in order to be hired for your preferred job.

Extra Activities

Writing down extra activities from your school is a little bit of a gamble. There are companies or screeners that are a little bit annoyed with the little details you would like to add in your resume. On the other hand, including the extra activities in your resume could be the key to getting hired because you have proof that you would like to be of great service to the business.

Because of the known risk in adding those extra experiences in your resume, proceed with caution. Only include the activities that you deem necessary or applicable to the company you want to work with. This is often missed out by fresh graduates because they tend to create a general resume and distribute them to different companies, hoping that one will call them back.

Your Professor as Your Network

Aggressive networking is highly advisable to fresh graduates. Since you don’t have any experience to include in your resume, include the people that are relatively known in the industry. The closest and the most familiar person you could probably include right now is your professor. Talk to your professor about the possibility of making him or her your point of reference.

Your college education is not just a single entity for your resume. Look back on your college days because there are a lot of activities and references you could use to land a good job.
