Your resume, no matter how good they look and the depth of its content will never get enough attention if they are not “searchable.”
Major companies today are using applications and online tools to search for the right candidate.
This will save them time and precious resources since instead of skimming through the resume one by one, they will just use tools provided by them by job posting websites.
Although there is still a possibility that the HR department will go through each resume, getting the attention of HR is more of luck rather than technique.
Along with the format, you should be careful on the words that you should add in your resume. There are certain “tricks” that you can do to ensure that your resume could be searchable.
Getting to Know More About Job Search Sites
Knowing the right words that you should need to add in your resume requires research. But you do not grab a book or a magazine to know the words you need to use.
Visit different job posting websites so that you will know how the company posts a job. Of course the format will almost be the same: they will introduce the company, introduce the position, its requirements and possible compensation.
This is also for your safety. If anything previously mentioned is not there (especially the company name), do not entertain the offer. They are often too good to be true.
Using Keywords
After visiting different websites, collect at least three job offers from different companies. Of course, this is for the purpose of gathering more information and probably receive a job offer from them.
But more than that, you need to know how they write their job posts. You have to take note the common keywords the company uses.
Those keywords will suggest not only what the company is looking for in a candidate but these are the traits, experience and education required to excel in the industry.
If you have those traits that they are looking for in a candidate; well and good since you have a good chance of getting hired.
On the other hand, if you do not have those qualities, maybe you should consider another type of career.
Adoption on Your Resume
With your careful research, you should be able to adopt the keywords in your resume. These keywords will most likely be used by the human resources department when they are trying to filter the resume.
You will be able to get the attention you need in your resume and increase the chances of getting an invitation for an interview.
But all of these adoptions of keywords will be for nothing if your resume is not readable. You may need to rephrase or even rewrite your resume just to accommodate your resume.
Remember that grabbing the attention of the Human Resources is just a small step. You still need to have a good looking resume. Edit your resume as many times as possible to ensure that your resume is not only searchable but also well-written.
